• Fill any new cracks with a quality acrylic latex caulk/filler.

Product Questions

  • What is the best type of paint brush to use when applying Cetol Door & Window?

Since Cetol Door and Window is an oil-based finish, I would make sure to use a natural bristle brush or a bristle-poly blend. Natural bristles hold oil bases very nicely while polyester brushes have a hard time with oil bases. This is the only restriction to follow with this product. I would consider other options such as width, angle, or quality entirely by your personal preference.

  • Can Sikkens Door & Window finish be used on the inside of my door or is it an exterior stain only?

Yes, you can certainly use the Sikkens Door & Window finish on all sides of your door. It is recommended that you review the preparation and application directions for this product to achieve the overall finish you wanting.

  • Can Cetol Log & Siding be applied over Cetol Door & Window if I want to add color?

Unfortunately, Proluxe Log & Siding is not compatible with the Cetol Door & Window. Since the Door & Window is already in place, adding Log & Siding may have a tendency to peel. I would recommend that you clean the surface well and then add another coat of Door & Window in the color of your choice.

  • Can I apply a coat of Sikkens Proluxe Cetol Door and Window Finish in colorless satin on top of two coats of Sikkens Proluxe Cetol Door and Window Finish in colorless Gloss? It is too glossy and doesn't match the adjacent wood.

That is a commonly used method to tone down the sheen of a finish that has gotten too glossy. We discussed it earlier today with PPG and they confirmed that there weren't any known incompatibilities there. Please contact us if you have any further questions.
