More Information

Surface Preparation:
• If the existing finish scratches off easily, pressure washing with a cleaning solution may be all that is needed. For prior organic oil-based (i.e. Linseed Oil) acrylic or propylene glycol finishes, stripping, sanding, or media blasting may be recommended for preparation. Remove any flaking or peeling stain so the product can penetrate well.

Recommended Tools:
• Use a high-quality China Bristle brush for application. If needed, use a pole brush for an extended reach.

Application:
• Apply generously by hand, saturating the logs until they are thoroughly coated. Back brush for even penetration.
• Use a high-quality China Bristle brush, a 3/4" to 1" plush roller, or a sprayer followed by back brushing.
• Use a plastic sheeting or tarp to protect surrounding areas.
• Apply to vertical surfaces first, followed by horizontal surfaces. Do not apply a second coat.

Drying:
• Log*1 Coat provides ample working time. Dripping is minimal unless overapplied. If running does occur, simply back brush again.

Finish:
• The finish is initially dark, but lightens within a few days. A full cure can take up to 30 days. Rain typically won't affect the finish after a few hours. Heavy rain spotting can be addressed by back-brushing with a 50/50 mix of mineral spirits and stain sealer after drying. Minor spots usually disappear during curing.

Cleaning:
• Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with mineral spirits. Wash hands and skin with soap and water.

Storage:
• Store LOG*1 Coat in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. If stored properly, the product can last for several years. Stir well before each use.

Caulking Tips:
• Choose a color that closely matches the anticipated wood tone after staining. Make sure to apply caulk before staining for best results. If done after staining, make sure the stain has dried completely. Most caulks are acrylic and can bleed through semi-transparent stains. Avoid caulking small checks.

Product Questions

Product Questions

  • How long will it take for the deeper tone to lighten up?

Sundance LOG*1 Coat tends to go on dark and then lighten during the following weeks. The amount of sun, degree of temperature, and porosity of the wood will determine how quickly the color will begin to match your expectations. Uneven curing patterns will disappear over the next 30-60 days.

  • Why does the wood look darker than the picture I saw on the Sundance website?

This is expected and normal. Depending on the age and porosity of the wood, it rnmay have different degrees of sealant retention. The older the wood, the more rnsealant it will retain, and the deeper the tone to start.

  • What if it rains after my treatment?

Once the sealant is applied to dry clean wood it will immediately penetrate and rnrepel water. Rain might only present a problem if it occurs heavily within a fewrnhours of applying the sealant. If it does rain, do not walk on it until it completely rndries out.

  • How long will it take for the Sundance Wood Stain Sealer to dry and fully cure out?

The sealant typically requires 24-48 hours to dry, depending on the weather. If a rndeck you can usually walk on it then. The full curing out process will follow in the rnweeks to come.
